Meet artist metalsmith Francisca Onumah in this special evening event at the Graves Gallery.
"Francisca will be in conversation with Emma Paragreen, Curator of Industry and Metalwork, to discuss her work, inspiration, process, and life as an artist. You’ll hear more about how she approached her latest commission, Clothed Akin, which she produced for the Sheffield collection thanks to support from the Contemporary Art Society's Griffin Award.
Clothed Akin is a family of sculptural vessels. Francisca works from sheet metal, using a variety of mark-making techniques to create tactile surface patterns that are evocative of textiles. The five anthropomorphic forms, as Francisca puts it, “lean into each other as if in quiet conversation” and complement the other works on display in the Portraiture and the Human Figure gallery.
