Peak District walk: Bamford – Great Tor
General
The walk will start at 09.50 am from the Bamford train station to give everyone a chance to get there.
The planned route is about 10km/6 miles and goes through Bamford Clough, considered one of the steepest roads in the UK/world, so we’ll go slowly and take breaks, but it is worth noting in advance.
Getting there
The starting point is the Bamford train station – train, drive, carpool, ride. Not sure about bus services to the station.
Clothing/shoes
It is getting colder so wear warm clothing and pack hand gloves if you can – the weather can be finicky. Pack rain gear/coats/pants or a change of clothes in your vehicle. Hiking/walking shoes are compulsory, please – no sneakers, slippers or bare feet.
Food/drinks
The walk should take about 3 hours so pack brunch or light snacks and drinks – completely up to you. Typically, there should be a break in the walks for food/rest.
Weather
Unpredictable. That is what it is. So come prepared – see previous points.
Fitness level
The distance is about 10km and there’s Bamford Clough, which is a bit steep – so you need to be okay with walking and some extensive going uphill.
** Medium-high effort.
Accessibility
Unfortunately, there are no accessibility provisions for this event. We will do better as soon as we can.
Tickets
The walk is free, of course. Tickets are to understand how many people are joining.
And, please, please, please, we understand that things happen and plans change, but if you already have a ticket and can’t join, let us know in advance.
Event-related discussions and more
blackside Barbershop is the brand (fresh-out-the-oven) new discussion community/platform – it’s still in testing, but it mostly works. You must have signed up and attended at least one blackside UK activity to be a part of the community. If you have joined a blackside activity in the past on Meetup and want to jump the queue, send a message to [email protected].
