Polylingual Open Mic Hosted by Danaé Wellington

The event is organised by the University of Sheffield and is part of the annual Festival of Words (see the official website for a ton of other interesting events).

The event is free and you don’t need to register. Use the More info button [external link] to see more information.

From the organiser:

Join us for a unique, friendly open mic that celebrates the UK’s rich linguistic diversity. Hosted by Sheffield’s Poet Laureate Danaé Wellington, enjoy a show-stopping set from British-Algerian writer Lydia Hounat, an alumna of the PTC’s first UNDERTOW programme for polylingual young poets.

Plus your chance to perform!  Bring two poems (one free choice and one using a non-English language) and sign up for the open mic on the night. Everyone will also be given a poem in translation to take home.

In collaboration with the Poetry Translation Centre 20th birthday celebrations.

Event-related discussions and more

blackside Barbershop is the brand (fresh-out-the-oven) new discussion community/platform – it’s still in testing, but it mostly works. You must have signed up and attended at least one blackside UK activity to be a part of the community. If you have joined a blackside activity in the past on Meetup and want to jump the queue, send a message to [email protected].
